Swim Meet 101
What to Bring
For Athletes:
- Competition Suit and an extra one
- Team Swim Cap and an extra one
- Two pairs of goggles
- Two towels
- Blanket to stay warm between events
- Warm jacket or sweatshirt to wear over your suit (this should not be the jacket you plan to wear home)
- Sharpie for writing down your Event, Heat, and Lane (E, H, L)
- Healthy snacks and drinks (avoid small, crumbly snacks that are difficult to handle when wet)
- Activity to stay busy, preferably not a phone or tablet (e.g., card games, a small waterproof board game, or a book)
For Parents:
- Folding chair or bleacher chair
- Cash for purchasing meet programs, if available. (The program lists your swimmer's events, heats, and lanes.)
- Pen, Sharpie, and Highlighter
- Layered clothing, as some facilities are warmer than others
- A willingness to help with timing or other duties if relief workers are needed
Day of the Meet Checklist
- Have your events, heats, and lanes written on your swimmer's arm or hand before arriving, if possible.
- Arrive at the meet 15 minutes prior to the start of warm-ups.
- Upon arrival, parents should direct their swimmer to the team camp area and check in with the coach. Parents are not allowed on the pool deck.
- Prepare for the swim meet: Put on your competition suit, have your swim cap and goggles ready, and ensure your Event, Heat, and Lane are written on you.
